Protect Your Pets from Fleas and Ticks this Summer

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of FRONTLINE Plus. The opinions expressed in this blog post and the text are mine.

In the Southern United States and the Midwest (where I now live), we had a very mild winter. Because of the mild temperatures, it wasn’t cold enough to allow the ticks and fleas to hibernate. This basically means that the fleas and ticks have had an entire season to breed and reproduce . . . which means, this summer, they are in full force.

Earlier this spring, Mama took out into the woods and I got attacked by ticks. It was NOT fun. She ended up having to kill each tick one by one. Not a fun job.

I love playing outside, but I hate ticks and fleas!

I did not like having ticks attached to my skin. It felt like I had warts on my body, and I was uncomfortable and just plain miserable.

I hate ticks and fleas in general. Fleas, especially.

An interesting fact about me . . . I am very allergic to flea bites. If a nasty flea bites me, I end up getting red patches (rashes) all over my skin. I end up scratching and scratching, and that area of skin gets inflamed. It is not fun at all.

This is me when I have fleas. Miserable and pathetic looking.

Fleas make me a miserable shih tzu!

Because of my flea allergy, Mama takes special precautions to prevent me from getting fleas and ticks on my skin. She has to be extra vigilant about it. The moment she sees me scratching, she knows it’s time for another application of FRONTLINE Plus!

FRONTLINE Plus is one of the medicines on the market that will help prevent flea and ticks from biting pets (dogs and cats). And if you come into contact with these nasty bugs, FRONTLINE Plus will actually kill them. In fact, FRONTLINE Plus is the #1 veterinarian-recommended flea and tick product. My vet proudly sells them, and I am sure yours does too.

Here’s what Mama and I like about FRONTLINE Plus:

  • It’s topical. You just apply it to the skin between my shoulder blades once a month, and you get protection all month long.
  • FRONTLINE Plus will kill 100 percent of fleas within 12 hours of you applying the product.
  • You can use FRONTLINE Plus in puppies and kittens after 8 weeks of age.
  • It is waterproof, even if you take a bath!

When I am on FRONTLINE Plus and flea-less, I love romping around the grass with my anipals and being my old self.

Frontline is a must for my sister and I because mom has us out walking in all different areas. We use Frontline, not FrontlinePlus because our vet said that is what we need if we don’t have fleas to start with. I am a big fan of water so it is great for me but the first 48 hrs I have to stay dry for it to work best. No one wants those awful bugs to bite and ruin our furry lives! Stay tick and flea free! Emma 🙂

I never had a high regard for them. After all, they are a source of pain for your anipals, and that is a big no-no for me.

I haven’t had any experience with fleas and ticks yet… but my mommy is always looking for it when me or my fur brothers scratch. We get a monthly doses of Frontline the 5th of every month. Daddy is in charge of that. I fink is a great product that help us stay health and happy!!

However I heard of many anipals that aren’t so lucky and can’t affort their doses and get sick. That makes me sad.

Sometimes flea bites are quite painful. I always use topical corticosteroids to manage the itchiness and pain that are caused by flea bites. “:.””

Some people are very sensitive to flea bites — but scratching can cause a wound or infection. The best solution is to get rid of fleas on pets and in your home. Keep pets out of your bed and be sure to vacuum rugs daily. Spray insecticides on infested areas. Consider using a once-a-month insecticide on your pet.*
