I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of my family. This is Chanh – which means Lime in Vietnamese.
He is 4-month-old shih tzu puppy. A boy. With very similar markings as Gracie. I consider him her “brother” even though they are not biologically related. Chanh was my present to my father, who had dogs when he was younger. He lives with my parents in Nashville, and Gracie and I visit him every two weeks. About twice a month.
Isn’t Chanh adorable?
When Gracie and Chanh get together . . . Oh, the fun they have together. They love playing tug-of-war and chasing each other. They wrestle and wrestle like puppies do. (Gracie is the one wearing the pink)
Gracie is 7 months old now, and I think she has stopped growing. For the last month or so, I’ve noticed that her growth has been stunted. So I’m hoping that this is her adult size, but if she has a growth spurt down the road, I’m OK with that too. She is still as hyper as ever, but I think she is slowly becoming calmer. Just a little bit.
Here’s Gracie…. She’s got a bit of tearing now-a-days. I wipe her face every day with a cloth, but she still has some stains. I’m too nervous about trying any kind of bleach on her face. I am worried it will hurt her, or cause her to have allergies. Anyone have tips?
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone!

Gracie and Chanh look so cute together…they are like mirror images…! I like the picture of them tossing Santa Claus in the air. 😀
Using a soft cloth with warm water every day is the best way to take care of tear stains imho. We do the same for Penny. If the staining is really pronounced, you can use just a "tiny" bit of shampoo on another cloth and then rinse it off with the other cloth…making sure to use a lot of water so that all the soap is removed.
I wouldn't use bleach or other chemicals too near her eye. There are a few stain removal products you can get at the pet store, but some of them contain Tylosin, an antibiotic, and I personally don't feel comfortable giving Penny antibiotics long term just for an aesthetic issue.
Happy Holidays…!
Look at Gracie! She is so cute with her bite. I think Chanh is the bomb too. They look so fun playing together! I hope your father loves him.
Brownie is now 10 1/2 (probably 11 now) pounds!
She is a CHUNK. 🙂 Still as cute as ever.
Thanks for the advice! I will just continue wiping her eyes. I also don't feel right using antibiotics. Penny is just so adorable and white, so I'm glad to hear what you guys do.
-Angelia, Thanks! They are adorable together. Gracie I think is a few pounds smaller than Brownie, but she's getting pudgy in her belly. I think because she has an affinity for food, lol. But she's about 8 lbs or so.
