Pugs are one of the oldest dog breeds, and their lineage traces back to before 400 B.C. Many researchers believe they come from Asia – which makes Shih Tzu and pugs cousins. The earliest known source for pugs is from China; the Buddhist monks in Tibet kept them as pets.
Like other toy dogs, pugs love to be around their humans. They love kids, and they’re sturdy enough to handle the rough playing of some little human tots. Pugs don’t require too much exercise (but they can easily get overweight, if you overindulge them). Fawn-colored pugs can shed quite a lot, since they have two layers of thick hair. Black pugs do not shed, since they only have a top coat, not the undercoat. All pugs are easy to groom.
They are considered part of the AKC’s Toy Group, and they are usually between 14 and 18 pounds when they are full grown. They are adorable little dogs, and the pug puppies are super cutes!
